19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.

Victory also means he has secured 21 championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the first set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial break points in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
