The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Developer to Revitalize Challenged Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Shift Comes After Mixed Feedback
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a clearer direction.
Ismailer stated that the team is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Below is the entire text from the president's memo:
Team—
I know you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Previously I shared you all a update, I expressed the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and versatility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It validated the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a clearer identity.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our players.
Our confidence in this project increases every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. Following a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s management and background in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having spent the last 15 years developing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in greeting him next week. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
The President

The appointee presently holds the position of executive producer and production lead at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
Game Details and Concept
The upcoming game was unveiled in October 2024 in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and tests that evolve every round. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Alternatively aim high, risk it all, and hope your group can secure victory? The option is up to you."
Project Ethos does not have an confirmed release date or consoles, but players can expect more updates as creation continues.
